Patrick Dempsey Who’s the cutest of them all? Was that the basis for a real-life fight between two Grey’s Anatomy actors? Perhaps we’ll never know the truth, but it was reported by the New York Daily News yesterday that Patrick Dempsey and Isaiah Washington got into an argument during production of the hit doctor drama. Something sparked the debate—according to the newspaper, it was about cast members who had delayed a scene—leading Washington to grab Dempsey by the throat and shove him. The two have sense made up for the scuffle, with Washington’s publicist commenting, “Differences are inevitable. They were aired, resolved and everyone has moved on.” Dempsey’s spokeswoman said, “There was an argument on set. In any close-knit family, sometimes people argue. But everybody made up and went back to work.” So, apparently, no hard feelings—life goes on. Let’s be on our best behavior, boys. Reserve this kind of cattiness for the ladies of Desperate Housewives.

Mel Gibson Apparently it was the wake-up call that Mel Gibson needed to get sober. Too bad it was also a huge image-breaker and public humiliation. I’m speaking, of course, about his DUI arrest in July, complete with anti-Semitic comments. He’s finally come forward in an interview with Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America to talk about the incident and the subsequent fallout. In the first part of the interview, which aired this morning, Gibson called his arrest “a blessing,” saying that he needed “public humiliation on a global scale” to get sober. Commenting on the incident and his alcoholism, Gibson said, “Sometimes you need a cold bucket of water in the face to sort of snap to, because you’re dealing with a sort of malady of the soul, an obsession of the mind and a physical allergy.” Jewish leaders, addiction experts and PR gurus believe that he still has a way to go on rebuilding his reputation, with many saying that he is hiding behind alcoholism and not taking full credit for the incident.

The second part of the interview will air on Friday morning on Good Morning America.

Sara EvansUs Weekly Magazine is reporting that country singer Sara Evans has quit Dancing with the Stars, effective immediately. Evans is citing personal reasons, with an Us Magazine source saying, “She is in the middle of a nasty divorce and it is too much for her to keep going.”

Us interviewed Evans on October 10th, where she said, “I feel so loved and adored by my fans, and they know how hard I am working and how much this means to me. [My husband] is amazing, he loves it. He just thinks it is amazing to watch the transition of someone who had never danced before to someone who is really enjoying dancing, so he finds it phenomenal.” Fellow contestants and Dancing With the Stars judges were suprised and saddened to hear of her departure, but support her decision to take care of her life. No further comment was made by ABC.

ABC logoUgh. I don’t know who this is good news to, but the original Extreme Makeover will be coming back to ABC on Friday nights. The show will begin airing next week, October 20th at 8:00 PM. You know the one, where plastic surgery serves as the cure-all for any and all imperfections that their ‘contestants’ (is that what you call them? participants?) need tending to. The crack team of surgeons, cosmetic dentists, hair and makeup artists, and stylists give each candidate the works. It’s cringe-worthy at best, but I admit to watching Doctor 90210 (until they actually show the surgery), so I’m not perfect either. I guess I’m most intrigued by why people feel they need to have all of this “work” done. Extreme Makeover takes it to the limit, however—their spin-off for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is slightly more palatable because homes are getting the makeover, not people. The show will begin next week, then take a Friday off for an airing of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown. The show will continue through November sweeps. Extreme Makeover last aired in August of 2005.

Tina Fey I guess not everyone will share my sentiment about 30 Rock, starring Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin—there are a lot of negative comments out there about the show—but I’m really looking forward to Wednesday’s premiere. Perhaps I was in the minority, but I just loved Fey on Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live and think her writing for the film Mean Girls was fantastic. Alec Baldwin is always a showstopper for me too. Any time he’s hosted SNL, he’s been incredibly funny, with excellent timing. I know, I know, there is already the behind-the-scenes-look-at-a-late-night-sketch-comedy-show on Studio 60, but try and give this one a chance.

That said, you can view the entire premiere episode at NBC.com—in advance of the premiere on Wednesday night. I’m dying to see it, but alas, will have to wait until tomorrow to check it out because I’ve just been too busy. Whether you watch it online or catch it on NBC Wednesday at 8:00 PM, I’d love to hear what you think of it. Good—Bad—or just, eh? Also noteworthy: Tina Fey will have a live blog following the show at NBC.com. Check it out.

Josh HollowaySo, being killed off on Lost is not out of the realm of possibility—apparently, actors on the show are fearing for their characters’ lives on the show. According to Josh Holloway, who plays Sawyer on the show, with secret scripts, none of the actors know when their time will be up. Holloway recently told Men’s Journal magazine, “Everybody in the cast worries about being killed off, and we wouldn’t know until they handed us the script three days before shooting.” He continued by saying, “It’s a sensitive issue. People have houses here, kids in school. Most of us aren’t in our twenties anymore.” Sudden character kill-offs are not a new notion on the show, but most would consider Holloway is safe for now. His con-man character is a definite hit with fans, as they wonder how the Kate-Jack-Sawyer love triangle will turn out. Best advice to Holloway—keep your shirt off as much as possible and Sawyer will continue to live on!

Donald Trump As if Trump water were not a strange enough branding opportunity, Donald Trump has now turned to alcohol. Introducing Trump Vodka—now we wait and see how it will tie in to an upcoming challenge on The Apprentice. Before that happens though, the first case will be delivered to a red carpet affair at Kennedy Airport in New York, complete with porters in tuxedos. Ironically enough, Trump doesn’t drink alcohol… is it just me, or does Trump seem bored? Eh, nothing else to do, so why not slap my name on vodka? Patrick Kenny of Drinks America Holdings Limited (huh?) said “there’s nobody who markets better in the luxury category than Donald Trump.” What next? Luxury Trump Toilet Tissue? Ah, don’t you just love luxury products? The going price for a one-liter bottle of Trump Vodka is $30. Look for it in liquor stores everywhere.

Stanley TucciWith the recent gap left by the cancellation of Smith, CBS has made the decision to bring midseason medical drama, 3 Lbs. on air sooner than anticipated. The Hollywood Reporter reports that CBS has ordered four scripts of 3 Lbs.—this is a good indicator that it may premiere in November, rather than midseason. The original pilot had Dylan McDermott starring, but the show was re-worked and McDermott was replaced by Stanley Tucci. Tucci plays a mentor to a young brain surgeon, played by Mark Feurstein. The show is currently in production, so CBS can determine whether or not to add it to the lineup based on the early episodes. The series would replace Smith‘s time slot of Tuesday at 10:00.

For now, a variety of crime show repeats will air through the end of October in place of Smith.

Paris and NicoleJust in case her nightclub brawl with Shanna Moakler didn’t thrust her into the spotlight enough, Paris Hilton is yet again making news with a possible reconciliation with ex-best bud Nicole Richie. The once inseparable The Simple Life co-stars had a break-up of sorts that drove a wedge between them, even impacting their most recent season of The Simple Life, where they were never in the same place at the same time.

E! Online is reporting that the two appear to have ended their 18 month spat—they arrived together for dinner at a West Hollywood restaurant on Sunday night, had a sleepover and endured the snapping of the paparazzi to commemorate their get-together. “We are back!” they said before they drove away. Oh goodie. I know you were all so worried about when they would reconcile. We can all sleep better now. Okay, I’m done with the cynicism now.

Jon Stewart While most of us rooted in reality can pretty much identify that an entertainer like Jon Stewart would never run for president, there are some optimists out there who love the idea. Case in point: the T-shirts reading “Stewart/Colbert ‘08.” Call me a naysayer—for while Stewart is smart, funny, entertaining and devilishly handsome, the prospects of his presidential run will never see the light of day. Stewart recently commented on the shirts at the New Yorker Festival, saying, “Nothing says ‘I am ashamed of you my government’ more than ‘Stewart/Colbert ‘08.”

Stewart is, however, doing his part by making politics interesting and entertaining—including having guests such as Bill Clinton and Pakistan’s president, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, on The Daily Show. He also has high hopes of getting the Bush administration to appear as well. Well, that’s probably about as likely as Jon Stewart running for president.
